Love is a Human Need.
For families experiencing poverty, celebrations like birthdays and holidays can be heavy reminders of what’s missing.
That’s why Tammy and her team at Streets of Hope KIDS step in—to remind families that they are not alone, and that every child deserves to feel special, seen, and safe.
What began as a simple gesture has become a quarterly celebration for low-income families in downtown San Diego. At Christmas in 2021, children were taken by party bus to a community center in La Mesa, greeted with music, lights, an ice cream truck—and joy. Santa and his elf friend made an appearance. Volunteers served lunch and helped kids unwrap hand-picked presents, from dollhouses to skateboards.
Some parents were able to attend, some were not—but every child felt cared for. One mother quietly watched her kids smile, and in that moment, the love in the room was undeniable.
This event wasn’t funded by a big organization—it was organized by Tammy and her team, made possible by community donations and pure heart. Streets of Hope KIDS believes every child should feel celebrated, and every parent supported—even if just for one day.
Because love, safety, and belonging aren’t luxuries. They are human needs.
