Safety is a Human Right.

In 2020, approximately 22.2% of Tijuana's population lived in moderate poverty, with an additional 1.84% experiencing extreme poverty.

Casas de Luz (CDL) focuses on transforming communities in Tijuana, where the standard of living is significantly lower than in many areas of the United States. What began as an annual project to build a home for a family in need has grown into a recurring event where volunteers come together to construct stable living spaces for homeless families, typically those with at least two children. Since its inception in 2005, CDL has built over 90 homes, with each home representing more than just shelter, but a new beginning for the families it serves.

In addition to constructing homes, Casas de Luz works to foster community development by building community centers that provide safe spaces for education, meals, and religious services. The organization also ensures weekly donations of clothing, food, and furniture, further enhancing the sense of home for the families. It costs between $6,500 and $7,500 to fund the construction of a three-bedroom home, and we have supported this mission multiple times, even before the creation of ACTUM Giving. If you're interested in supporting the full build of a home, please contact us to learn how you can help provide a lasting impact on a family's life.
